Cross-Cultural Discipleship Program

General Information

What is Training2Send?

Training2Send is a training strategy designed to train all disciples to make disciples in obedience to the Great Commission.

What does the Cross Cultural Discipleship Program with Training2Send look like?

Our vision is to create a pipeline for North American workers to be exposed to the core mission task: evangelism, making disciples, and planting multiplying churches.

For ninety days, young adults (ages 20-25) will be involved in daily missionary work. This will consist of personal discipleship and training in Tree of Life, 411, and other materials, as well as going out into the local community for discipleship training. A couple days out of the week missionaries will be engaged in “Harvest time” (Luke 10:2) where they will be engaging with the local community, prayer walking, starting intentional gospel conversations, and discipling local believers using the material learned. This also includes traveling and training alongside other national workers in Tree of Life or 411 in other locations throughout Senegal and may include traveling to an adjoining country (Guinea Bissau) for a couple days at a time. There will be basic language classes several days out of the week learning French or Wolof (the local language) in order to help further basic conversation and relationships within the community.

Senegal is an Islamic country and culture. Most of the Islam practiced in Senegal is mixed with African traditional religion involving idol worship. Statistically speaking, over 91% of the population is Muslim, 0.2% Evangelical, and 56% of people are unevangelized with the light of the Gospel. This is a spiritually dark place. However, this is a stable and secure country, hospitable and nonviolent towards foreigners.

This is a commitment to approximately 3 months of being immersed in the work to help further the strategy of T2S until there is no place left without the Gospel. Below is the U.S. Department of State website link for further information on Senegal, West Africa.

Medical

Every missionary will need health insurance. There is adequate health care and access to pharmaceutical medication in Ziguinchor, Senegal. However, Senegal is a third world country and does not have the quality of healthcare provided in the United States. Gallagher | Charitable is an option that we have used in the past. It specializes in missionary health insurance, including emergency medical evacuation. Further details are provided in this link.

The yellow fever vaccine is required for entry into Senegal. Please remember to get the vaccine in advance, as there are shortages on the vaccine. Your local health department normally will have access to the yellow fever vaccine.

Visit this link for health information specific to Senegal by the U.S. Department of State. Visit this link for more detailed information regarding health information and requirements by the CDC.

We also strongly recommend taking prescribed malaria medicine prior to arrival and during your stay in-country.

Expectations

Missionary Expectations:

Personal Walk with the Lord - Our first and foremost expectation is that each missionary take seriously their personal walk and relationship with the Lord. Above all else, we hope this is your main priority and focus throughout these three months to maintain closeness with the Father. Of course, our desire is to come alongside you to help grow your daily spiritual disciplines, practices, and your understanding of your identity as an ambassador and disciple maker of Christ.

Role - Understanding your role as a missionary in Senegal by coming alongside national workers to learn from them, be an encouragement, and work alongside them as they are engaged in the core missionary task. Training and equipping the national worker is the key to fulfilling the Great Commission in our generation.

Self Functioning/Self Initiating - Our desire is for you to be zealous for Christ and the core missionary task, to be a self starter, and to be committed to multiplying disciples while working alongside our national partners.

Commitment Statement

I, ______________(full name)_____________, am committing to ninety days of focused service and obedience to the Lord. I am committing to walk with intentionality and purpose to first and foremost love God, and second, love others by living out the Great Commision found in Matthew 28:18-20.

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

I recognize that there will be challenges and hardships, but by the grace of God, I commit to walk in humility, act in integrity, serve faithfully to honor the Lord, my church family, and Training2Send.

Fund Raising

Training2Send gives all financial responsibility to individuals and their partnering churches to raise support, steward, and oversee financial decisions. However, T2S will provide an outline of costs necessary for the full semester. For if any reason throughout the semester a missionary would need to withdraw, T2S does NOT retain the right to any of their funds raised.

A ministry account with a debit card to withdraw from an ATM is advised.

Expenses:

  1. Plane Ticket - approximately $1,500- $2,000 (This will fluctuate depending on region as well as when the flights are booked.)

  2. Training Transportation - $500 total (This will cover costs needed in-country in order to travel and train believers in other locations.)

  3. Meals - Breakfast (bread, jelly, and fruit) and supper will be provided. However, if you want to purchase your own food, that will need to be factored into your expenses.)
